arI’m not exactly a fashionista. I’m mostly a SAHM and when I do work outside the home, I teach yoga, so I’m in a tank top and yoga pants most days.

That uniform wasn’t going to cut it for the holidays, so I was so happy to have received this Butterfly Nursing Shirt from Nurture-Elle. I wore this beautiful red shirt for our family Christmas photos, over to the Great Grandparents’ and even on occasions when there would be no nursing, like date night and our Satsang at Espace Shanti.
This particular shirt is fancier than pretty much anything in my closet, but the price is still low ($60) especially considering it can be worn long after your kids have weaned.
The fabric used is soft and comfortable. The tank top inside is 95% cotton, 5% spandex and the external top 90% viscose, 10% spandex. There’s a pull ribbon inside the shoulder which 3_butterfly_sleeve_with_adjustable_ribbonallows you to bring the sleeves to ¾ length. Because boob access is through the sleeves, breastfeeding is super discreet and almost unbelievable. This is the reason the shirt can be worn even when the kids aren’t around. To be honest, I often wear nursing shirts when I’m away from the kids because those items are among my nicest and newest! But this is one of the only items I have that isn’t obviously meant for breastfeeding.
I found Nurture-Elle randomly on Facebook and was especially interested in this Ontario company which just launched a Made in Canada collection, a point of pride for Ysabel, the company’s founder.

For the first year or so of Babe’s life I had no special nursing attire. My nursing bras were hand me downs and I just wore “easy access” shirts.

But by the time I became pregnant with Bug, it was obvious my nursing career wasn’t going to end anytime soon. So I splurged a little! I bought some ultra comfy nursing bras.

I also clued in to how great it was to be able to nurse discreetly in public. I have never worn a nursing cover,  but having proper nursing shirts which allowed me to nurse without showing too much skin definitely appealed. So I began my search.

The quality of the nursing shirts available at Thyme Maternity left something to be desired, but then I found Momzelle, which soon became a favourite company of mine. They’re based in Montreal and make gorgeous, practical, comfortable, high-quality, affordable nursing clothes.

I had already began writing this post, but put it aside to go to my friend Lucie’s for one of her amazing lattes and to recuperate the Baby Led Weaning book I had lent her. I was wearing the new Momzelle Carly shirt they had sent me to review.

Lucie, too, was wearing a Momzelle shirt. “Hey, c’est un nouveau!” She said, recognizing my new shirt. Lucie has done her research. Turns out she might even be a bigger fan  than I am. She’s got 10 of their shirts!

I was, indeed wearing the Carly top in Plum from Momzelle’s new collection. and I absolutely love this shirt. It’s made of 94% Cotton/Modal and 6% Spandex.  It’s super comfy and it doesn’t cling (a worry for most postpartum mamas!) The opening is just like the Longsleeve Flamenco and Stella nursing dresses I have. It opens the same for each side, while still covering the chest–perfect for this tandem nursing mama!

As we sat in Lucie’s living room, discretely nursing our babies, we talked about the importance of proper nursing attire. “Ca a changé ma vie,” Lucie said. I couldn’t agree more. Lucie had a similar experience, not really realizing the importance of good nursing attire until Baby #2 came along. She too, discovered that Momzelle makes clothes that fit beautifully and let moms feel great about themselves and feeding our babies anytime, anywhere.

Go to Momzelle.com to check out the brand new collection. There are also some great finds in the Clearance section. And don’t forget your MAMA5 code.

Happy shopping!
